After the storms blew through the streets of Wichita on Friday, Masters athletes from five different States hit the Track and charged the Field for a glorious day of competition amidst sunshine and mild temperatures. The Wichita Open/Masters Track and Field Meet at Cessna Stadium was the first USATF sanctioned meet of its kind since 2003.
There were those who experienced their first Masters event ever and there were seasoned Masters athletes who put on stellar performances that will be recognized as among the best, nationally.
There were many exceptional performances. So much so that it would be difficult to call them out now for fear of forgetting someone. The results are here.
I overheard one person say, “I have never seen such sportsmanship and encouragement of one another along with such a keen competitive spirit.”
And as a Masters athlete, I can tell you that some of my deepest friendships and fiercest competitors are one in the same.
This meet would not have been possible without the WSU Coaching Staff and Track athletes along with Shocker Track Club members and other volunteers. It was a tremendous day! A very sincere thank you to all of the fantastic athletes and the tremendous effort of the volunteers!
