Program Costs –
We continue to receive questions about program payment. And we understand because, due to many uncertainties, we are implementing a new payment structure program for this indoor season. As in the past, one free try-it-out practice is allowed before registration payment is required. ALL participants in September will pay $20. If continuing – or when first attending or joining in either October, November, December, January, or February – the “Registration Joiner Fee” of $100 is due for that month and covers all activities AND provides all program “General Amenities”(see below for details). Participation in additional months has a separate fee of $20 each for November, December, January and February that must be paid at the first practice attended that month. Thus, the maximum amount that would be paid during the entire Indoor season (from September through February) would be $200.
Here is an example –
1 – First attend in November – pay the Registration Joiner Fee of $100 and receive all program amenities. Return in December – pay $20. Return in January – pay $20. Don’t attend in February – you owe nothing. Total amount paid = $140.

Twelve STC Youth Alum Sign Collegiate Letters of Intent
Twelve members of the 2019 Shocker Track Club Youth Outdoor, and/or 2019 -2020 Shocker Track Club Youth Indoor Teams signed Letters of Intent to continue competing in Track and Field in college beginning in 2020-2021. The athletes (their high school, event(s) – and their chosen university/college) are – Jaleel Montgomery (Wichita West High, Hurdles/Sprints – Wichita State University), Brian Simon (Bishop Carroll High, Pole Vault – Kansas State University), Audrey Bebermeyer (Chaparral High, Pole Vault – Wichita State University), Kyler Meyer (Valley Center High, Multis – Wichita State University), Kenisa Meyer (Valley Center High, Multis – Wichita State University), Jalyn Whorton (McPherson High, Multis – Wichita State University), Grace Jacobs (Circle High, Hurdles and High Jump – Emporia State University), Latia Moddelmog (Canton-Galva High, Multis – Sterling College), Joy Stanton (Wichita Northwest High, Distance – Oklahoma Baptist University), Lucas Hall (Valley Center High, Distance – Bethel College), Joaquin Gonzales (Wichita West High, Distance – Cowley County Community College), and Michael Kelty (Wichita Southeast High, Sprints – Butler County Community College). Congratulations to these outstanding student/athletes!
The athletes listed comprise the largest group ever of athletes signing Letters of Intent, and eclipses the 2018-2019 class which had ten (10) STC Youth team alumni signing Letters of Intent. That group included two (2) athletes to the US Military Academy at West Point (Ethan Hull and Jerik Ochoa), two (2) to Emporia State University (Aren Trost and Jaden Eck), one (1) to Fort Hays State University (Taylor Linn), and one (1) to the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (Maggie Remsburg).

Here We Go – STC Youth Team Outdoor Practice Begins
Practices will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 615p to 745p, and Saturday mornings from 900a to 1030a at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium.
Our program has not changed in that it is available to ages 5 through 18 and recent high school graduates.
– The cost for 2020 high school graduates is $50 and is payable via cash or check made payable to Shocker Track Club
In closing, as we know, 2020 has been a year unlike any other. We have spent weeks discussing the development of a Youth program that will provide a safe environment for athletes with our Coaches and Team Leadership. Because we rent track access from Wichita State University-ICAA we will follow their guidelines for access and use. Some of their guidelines, and ours, may seem overly controlling. But they have been implemented for the safety of all of us. As such, the program overview and safety guidelines mentioned here and in the attached documents are non-negotiable, but are considered fluid and will be reviewed daily and adjusted as necessary and appropriate. Before committing to join the program we urge you to carefully consider if you can support the guidelines.
STC Receives Mention in Wichita Eagle’s 50 Most Influential in Sports Community
The Shocker Track Club was mentioned in the Wichita Eagle’s article highlighting the “50 Most Influential People in the Wichita Community Right Now”. The article identifies the most 50 most influential people in the “Wichita sports scene.”
Our STC club president, Darren Muci, was mentioned in the highlight of Wichita State University Director and Head Track and Field Coach, Steve Rainbolt, in No. 36. Assistant Director of Track & Field, John Wise, was also mentioned in the article!
36. STEVE RAINBOLT
Role: Wichita State track and field coach since 2000
The case: WSU has had a history of success with its track and field program, but Rainbolt has elevated the Shockers to another level in the last two decades. The Shockers have won 33 conference championships during Rainbolt’s time, not to mention 251 individual conference champions, 160 school records, 115 national qualifiers and 72 All-Americans. John Wise, Rainbolt’s assistant since 2006, is also worth mentioning, as the two helped form Shocker Track Club, now run by Darren Muci, which gives track opportunities to the Wichita community.

Summer Youth Outdoor Program Update
Leadership of the Shocker Track Club Youth Team is in discussion with Wichita State University-ICAA to identify a start-date for our summer program later this month at the Cessna Stadium track. Our Coaches are ready to go to work! We thus appreciate your patience as we work through the process of identifying the requirements necessary due to the challenges of COVID-19. As soon as we complete our discussion with Wichita State we will begin the registration process.
We will have hand sanitizer available, and also implement various health safety guidelines in order to provide as safe of an environment as possible for athletes, coaches, parents, and visitors. This will include asking athletes to complete a self-health assessment prior to entering the practice area. We will also recommend that athletes strongly consider wearing sun or safety glasses during practices.
For those of you interested in track meets – at this time the Track and Field competition of the Kansas Sunflower Games is still scheduled to be held July 10-11 in Topeka. At this time no competitions will be held for Hurdles, Pole Vault, or High Jump. Here is a link to information > Sunflower Games Track & Field
If you have any questions about our program, or would like to be placed on our “I’m interested, please contact me” list, please contact Darren Muci at president@shockertrackclub.com

UPDATE – Shocker Track Club and Coronavirus COVID-19
As a result of recent announcements by Wichita State University and Sedgwick County Kansas which either eliminate or limit the availability of practice venues, or the size of groups attending activities, we are indefinitely suspending our plans for the Shocker Track Club Youth Outdoor Spring/Summer Program.
Should an opportunity exist in the future to commence a program we will announce it here. Until such time, we wish you all the best and respectfully request that you take all necessary precautions to protect yourself and your families during these challenging times.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
Respectfully,
Darren Muci, President
president@shockertrackclub.com
As previously announced, Shocker Track Club is working on the plans for our outdoor spring/summer Youth program to begin in early April. However, yesterday Wichita Sate University announced that, “…Effective Monday, March 16, all athletic events – either sponsored by WSU or held on WSU property – will be cancelled…..Events initially scheduled for after April 13 will be reevaluated…”
Although our practices technically aren’t events, it appears that this means that we cannot begin our Youth Team program until after April 13th at the earliest.
As a matter of course we are: (a) exploring other options for practices on the outside chance that Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium is not available to us, (b) monitoring the USATF website in case an announcement is made regarding youth member club practices, and, (c) continuing to monitor the situation regarding COVID-19, before determining the start of our Youth Team outdoor practices, or if it would even be practical to hold the program this year.
Updates will be shared here and on our other other social media platforms. Feel free to contact our President, Darren Muci, at president@shockertrackclub.com if you have any questions.
